Emily Bell McCormick

Founder & President

Emily Bell McCormick is the President and Founder of The Policy Project. In her role, she ensures policy is used as a tool for good in order to make widescale, upstream impact. She works closely with lawmakers, philanthropists and the community to craft laws that increase an individual's ability to access opportunity and live with dignity—recognizing that growing human potential can and should be a top priority of the state. She is focused in particular on the needs of women, children, and families.

In her time, Emily has led legislative and funding efforts to ensure free period products are provided in all Utah schools—kindergarten through college, secured funding and oversight for teen resource centers in 86 schools to ensure those living in poverty have basic needs met, kept cell phones out of classrooms, provided school lunch to low-income students, and ensured every elementary school student in Utah has access to child sexual abuse prevention curriculum.

Prior to The Policy Project, Emily worked as a strategic communication consultant, specializing in marketing, public affairs and public relations. She founded Shabby Apple, an apparel line, and edited a fashion segment for a television morning show. She has a Master of Art in Communication from The Ohio State University and a Bachelor of Art in Journalism from Brigham Young University.

She is passionate about people and is driven by a belief that it is our duty to leave this world better than we found it.

Outside of work Emily loves spending time with family and friends, eating all the baked goods, and walking in beautiful neighborhoods.
