What: Attendees will gather in their red attire to raise awareness and show support for The Focused Student Project, a two-pronged approach to ensure students can focus in the classroom.
The event will include speeches from community leaders and elected officials. It's all about fostering positivity and bringing the community together to support this important cause.
When: Wednesday, November 20th at 11:30 am
Where: The Utah State Capitol Rotunda | 350 State St, Salt Lake City, UT 84103, USA
Why: As Utahns, we invest much of our time, attention, and resources into our schools and students. However, we continue to hear a common refrain from teachers: A distracted student cannot learn, and a hungry student cannot learn.
First, we are working to pass a bill that will limit smartphones, smartwatches, and emerging technologies in the classroom—while allowing Local Education Agencies to create policies to meet local needs and create exceptions for students with certain health or education considerations.
Second, we are collaborating with experts, elected officials, donors, and community members to pass a bill that includes several targeted interventions to ensure children are fed and to promote upward mobility for Utah families. Some of these actionable steps include expanding participation in no-cost school meals, ensuring food access during summer months, maximizing the use of existing federal meal programs, alleviating student meal debt, and extending lunch periods to allow adequate eating time.
